Autumn-Inspired Spiced Apple Cider

Try this special potion—a spiced cider with grounding and immune-boosting herbs—crafted exclusively for Yoga Journal by Andy Bottagaro, potion maker at Shine Restaurant and Gathering Place in Boulder, Colorado.

Ingredients

32 oz apple juice

½ cup dried holy basil leaf

2 T dried orange peel

2 T dried rosemary

1 ½  T crushed cardamom

1 ½  T dried ginger root

1 T dried peppermint leaves

½ T ground nutmeg

1 ½ cinnamon sticks

Preparation

In a large pot, bring 32 oz. apple juice to a near boil.  Add ½ cup dried holy basil leaf, 2 T dried orange peel, 2 T dried rosemary, 1 ½ T dried cardamom, 1 ½ T dried ginger root, 1 T dried peppermint leaves, ½ T ground nutmeg, and 1 ½ cinnamon sticks.

Turn off heat and let steep for an hour.  Strain herbs and sip.  Serves 4.
