WHAT IS BASELINE CONCUSSION TESTING?

Baseline Concussion Testing KWCH downtown Kitchener

Testing can either be baseline (before an injury) or post-injury.

Baseline testing optimizes post-injury concussion care. It can provide a “benchmark”, allowing the comparison of an individual’s post-injury results to their pre-injury baseline. In terms of symptoms and recovery, concussions do not present themselves in a universal pattern. This makes it a challenge to identify a concussion and determine when it has resolved. Therefore, individualized care is very important when treating concussions.

There is increasing evidence for baseline testing as a tool to monitor recovery and provide an objective measurement for medical clearance. Not only can baseline measurements vary between individuals, but they can also change within the individual.

For sports teams, baseline testing would ideally occur during every pre-season.

Let us know if you are interested in obtaining baseline testing for your team or as an individual!
